Why everyone keeps coming back.

Meat Shack Texas Barbecue, located at 4923 50 St in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, is a must-visit destination for barbecue enthusiasts craving authentic Texas-style smoked flavors right in the heart of Canada. Specializing in hearty, soul-satisfying fare, this restaurant masterfully showcases the art of smoked meats with a menu that celebrates indulgence and comfort in every bite.

The star of the show is undoubtedly their smoked brisket, celebrated by patrons like Tracy Johnson and Elizabeth for its melt-in-your-mouth tenderness and rich, smoky depth. Served in several enticing formats, the Brisket Sandwich features perfectly smoked brisket nestled on a buttery brioche bun accompanied by crisp pickles and fresh coleslaw, creating a delightful contrast of flavors and textures. Meanwhile, the Brisket Grilled Sandwich ups the comfort factor with melted Swiss and Cheddar cheeses melting beautifully over Texas toast, turning every bite into a warm, cheesy celebration.

For those seeking variety, the Pulled Pork Sandwich Meal provides a generous helping of smoky pulled pork accented by tangy slaw and pickles—classic companions that elevate the rich pork’s savory profile. Meanwhile, carnivores will appreciate the AAA Steak Sandwich, featuring a 10 oz Alberta AAA striploin grilled to perfection and served on garlic bread with Au Jus, a true indulgence for steak lovers wanting that perfect blend of juiciness and robust flavor.

Completing your meal at Meat Shack Texas Barbecue is a refreshing, well-curated beverage menu ranging from the vibrant fizz of Jarritos and classic sodas like Root Beer and Dr. Pepper, to soothing iced teas and freshly served orange juice, each adding a perfect palate cleanser or bubbly accompaniment to the hearty mains.

Beyond the smoked meats, fans rave about the homemade sauces crafted in-house, which add an extra layer of complexity and tang to the dishes, enhancing rather than overpowering the natural smoky character of the meats. The side salad mix and daily soups offer lighter, fresh options, rounding out the menu without compromising the authentic Texas barbecue experience.

The atmosphere at Meat Shack Texas Barbecue exudes casual warmth and friendly hospitality, making it an inviting spot for families, friends, or anyone craving quality barbecue. Reviewers frequently mention attentive and knowledgeable servers like Tristan, whose friendly demeanor and accommodation for dietary needs, such as gluten intolerance, ensure everyone feels welcome and well cared for.

From the perfectly smoked Thanksgiving turkey that Ekaterina Noskova raved about to the shareable platters and burger creations praised for their generous portions, this eatery embodies the spirit of genuine barbecue culture with quality ingredients and heartfelt service. Whether it’s a casual lunch or a festive dinner, Meat Shack Texas Barbecue leaves a lasting impression, inviting you back time and again to savor the warm, smoky flavors that make Texas BBQ iconic.

A friend and I went to the meat s h a c k today and was very much impressed I had the Smash burger with fries and gravy and it was absolutely delicious it was so big I could barely open my mouth wide enough to take a bite. The gravy was homemade and so great with the fries. My friend ordered the shareable platter which was an assortment of smoked meat and coleslaw and potato salad as well as a couple pieces of garlic . They have a great assortment of homemade barbecue sauces. The server was very friendly and efficient. The interior decorating is fantastic and you can feel the owner's pride in being Canadian. We will be back.

This is a good local BBQ in Wetaskiwin. I did not expect a BBQ here but this gem is worth going. Everything is made in house and to order. The BBQ platter for 2 is good and there is BBQ sauce you can add for your brisket, ribs, sausages, pulled pork and turkey. Platter comes with coleslaw, potatoe salad and bread. The best meat in the platter is the sausage. There is a nice heat and spiciness but not strong that it blows your taste buds. 2nd best is the ribs as it was very tender and meat falls off the bone. Coleslaw is not overly sweet just a perfect amount of sweetness and crunch. There are other BBQ places where they mess up the coleslaw and it is soggy. One negative is the potatoe salad. It was a bit bland but overall the platter is good. Wish there is small bowl of beans or fries for the platter too. The owner and chef allowed us to tour their kitchen. It is amazing to see the work they have done to cook and prepare BBQ meat. And I found out that they make their own sausages. Highly recommend coming here if you want BBQ whenever you are in Wetaskiwin.

Second time here. Beans are good. Turkey burger good. Tried their double beef burger , terrible. The meat was off and the spices not good. I suggest starting over. Get better beef and not so much spices - I had brisket before was good.
